Zal Idrissa Sissokho, an exceptional Senegalese artist, is a modern griot and kora virtuoso. Originally from Kolda in southern Senegal, he carries the heritage of the 13th-century griots, symbols of wisdom and truth. Singing in Malinke and Wolof, he honors the tradition of the Mandé Empire. Arriving in Montreal in 1999, he joined the Quebec artistic scene, collaborating with artists such as Richard Séguin and Cirque du Soleil. His music, influenced by trips to Brazil and Spain, fuses sounds from all over the world. In 2008, he released his debut album *Silaba*, followed by *Le Partage* (2012), an ode to reggae and world music. His album *Famalé* (2015), produced in Brazil, reflects his cosmopolitan universe. In 2017, he pays tribute to Gilles Vigneault with *La Palabre*. In 2020, a project with Caroline Planté, fusing kora and flamenco guitar, earned him several distinctions, including an ADISQ award and a Canadian Folk Music Award. In 2023, he released *La Source*, a collaborative album with Djely Tapa, Diely Mori Tounkara and Élage Diouf, celebrating harmony and unity. Each note of his kora resonates like a universal message, linking past and present in a music rich in history and modernity.
