Panel: Reflections on the decolonial question
Since the 50s and 60s, our language has evolved from anti-colonial to decolonial. Many countries in Africa, Asia, South America and the West Indies have gained their independence, often at the price of debt that keeps them in extreme poverty and persistent political instability. The genocide of indigenous peoples in North America and the ongoing genocide in the Middle East bear witness to the continuity of colonialism, calling into question decolonial discourses that are too often simplified or trivialized in the public arena. Can we really decolonize? Isn't the decolonial struggle the utopia of a never-ending struggle?
This panel proposes to reflect on our contemporary societies by confronting them with those of the past, highlighting the reflections of our guests from different academic and artistic fields, for whom the (de)colonial question is a constant preoccupation.
