Pas Juste la danse
A small work that unfolds like a pocket handkerchief. In the supreme modesty of the presence of 2 performers on a bench, angles and sides address time, movement and value. Pas juste de la danse takes us back to the silence of our beginnings. To be seen from the front and from the side.
Performers: Marie Denise Bettez and Kristina Brown.
The piece will be followed by a 45-minute discussion with the performers, in the presence of choreographer Zab Maboungou and moderated by cultural journalist Yvette Mbogo.
Waahi
Waahli grew up in a family where music was omnipresent, influenced by the traditional Haitian melodies of groups such as Tabou Combo, Coupé Cloué and Manno Charlemagne. He taught himself to play guitar, but it was hip-hop that enabled him to develop his own style. In 2004, he co-founded Nomadic Massive, a legendary Montreal hip-hop group that remains active to this day, with a new EP recorded in 2022 during a tour of South America. At the same time, Waahli feels the need to develop a solo project. He releases his debut album, *Black Soap*, in 2018, followed by the EP *Soap Opera* in 2020. These projects, sung in English, French and Haitian Creole, blend rap, Afro-beat and Haitian rhythms, paying tribute to his culture. On September 30, 2022, Waahli returns with *Soap Box*, a more personal album inspired by confinement. Co-produced with Boogat, it features a fusion of instrumentals, live vocals and percussion, infused with the spirit of Haitian culture.
With its ancestral rhythms and sharp visual poetry, Waahli's alternative hip-hop takes us to the four corners of the world.
