About the book
Haiti, 2000. A hard-hitting novel about armed gangs. The destinies of two women who have nothing in common cross paths. An unlikely complicity develops between the maid and her boss, as they struggle to survive the hell of everyday life. At the bottom of this abyss, they struggle to keep their dreams, dignity and inner strength. Based on eyewitness accounts and a fine knowledge of the slums, Henry Kénol weaves an original universe that gives space and voice to people shaken by distress.
About the author
Born in Haiti, Henry Kénol, a child prodigy of Haitian literature, was the first writer to explore gang violence in the slums. He lives in Montreal. Le désespoir des anges was published in Haiti in 2009 by Atelier Jeudi Soir, and reprinted in France by Actes Sud in 2013.
