THE DRAFT is the third film by filmmaker Jephté Bastien.
"Exit 67", his first feature film, recognized as an essential and bold work of Canadian cinema, earned him a Genie Award for Best First Feature Film in 2011. His name is perpetually etched in the annals of Canadian cinema, with pride.
His second feature film, "Vortex", was an experimental self-funded project. This "ancestral dictation," as Jephté describes it, was released in August 2016 in Quebec and gained international recognition, screening at prestigious events such as the Pan African Film Festival in Cannes, the Hong Kong Arthouse Film Festival, and the Nollywood Film Festival in Toronto. After exploring the fantasy genre, the filmmaker returns to the genre that first brought him acclaim with THE DRAFT, a film rich in human capital, legacy, progress, and style.
Furthermore, his credibility as a Canadian filmmaker from Montreal’s Black community positions Jephté Bastien as a bridge between sophisticated cinephiles and a broader audience.
"THE DRAFT" is a refined, multicultural film that blends Art, Drama, and Action—a groundbreaking achievement for its genre, filmed in Canada.
Through these efforts, we aim to use The Draft as a catalyst to raise awareness, foster dialogue, and promote social change. We believe this film has the power not only to inform but also to mobilize communities toward a more equitable and inclusive future.
