Librairie Livresse invites you to a talk about the book Eyes Have Seen, presented in partnership with the Table ronde du Mois de l’Histoire des Noirs and Baraka Books.
This discussion, which will be held primarily in English, will bring together Fred Anderson, author of the book, and Webster, historian and hip-hop artist, for a conversation about this powerful memoir.
In Eyes Have Seen, Fred Anderson offers a moving marrative of his childhood in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, in a context of pervasive racism. He recounts how family, supportive neighbours, and the cultural foundations of Newman Quarters helped him withstand the systemic violence of the American South in the 1950s and 1960s.
The book also traces his early involvement in the Civil Rights Movement, his opposition to the Vietnam War, and his journey to Canada, reimagining the legacy of the Underground Railroad.
Through a dialogue format, the discussion will reflect on memory, transmission, and struggles for civil rights, as well as their contemporary resonances.
