The Laboratoire des Afriques Innovantes (LAFI, UQAM) is organizing a conference on reparation practices in two non-hegemonic cultures, Black and Indigenous. The issue of reparations is central to Black history, marked by acts of violence (slavery, colonization, etc.) whose consequences are unfortunately still very visible. However, reflecting on practices of reparation goes beyond those aimed at the multifaceted damage that Black peoples have suffered in the past. It also involves examining the forms of reparation that Black cultures have developed to restore broken relationships, both between individuals and between humans and their environment. With the aim of openness and exchange of experiences and knowledge, the conference adopts an intercultural approach that encourages dialogue between Black and Indigenous communities. These two communities share experiences of historical violence, but also cultural practices whose joint examination will be of great benefit to our societies in their search for innovative solutions to the crises of living together.
