Africa, Cradle of Humanity and Modern Civilizations
Bénita, a Montreal-born Québécoise, is searching for answers about her origins. Her ancestors were deported from Africa to Haiti. Now a mother, Bénita wants to provide answers to her children. She travels to Africa in search of her roots. Her journey begins at the Museum of Black Civilizations in Dakar, Senegal, where she hopes to discover life on the continent prior to slavery. She meets experts who have written about Africa in order to help reconstruct this history. Together, they travel through time and space, seeking spiritual, architectural, and historical testimonies of the continent’s golden age.
