This cultural and civic gathering offers a sensitive, safe, and intergenerational space for dialogue, focused on the feminine transmission of the memory of the transatlantic slave trade and slavery.
The event aims to equip adults and families to approach these historical realities with young people without traumatizing them, emphasizing resilience, dignity, and creativity. The evening will feature artistic performances (music and dance), a film screening, and a panel discussion bringing together Afro-descendant women from artistic, literary, and activist backgrounds.
The panel will highlight the work of Marie-Denise Douyon, author, illustrator, and founder of Éditions Muzikiddy, who will present La Traversée de Manmzèl Gougousse (a children’s novel and podcast on slavery and the transatlantic slave trade). The discussion will be moderated by Maguy Métellus, Afro-feminist activist, storyteller, and host, guiding participants and the audience through a thoughtful and supportive reflection on issues of memory, storytelling, and intergenerational transmission.
The evening will conclude with a cocktail reception, fostering informal exchanges and continuing the conversation in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. This activity is intended for families, parents, teenagers, educators, cultural mediators, artists, and community members interested in exploring just, humane, and creative ways to discuss slavery with younger generations.
