The Union United Church Band Ensemble presents a special Black History Month tribute in honour of Dr. Oliver Jones, patron of the band since its inception in 2008, and, as a celebration of his 90th year.
The program will feature, solos, duets, quartets of members, age five to adults.
Tapping not only into their musical skills on recorders, flutes, clarinets, trumpet, drums, guitars and our usual, pannist, Fatima Wilson, the band will feature for the first time, a signature musical piece of the internationally renowned pianist, the late Hon. Oscar Peterson, who was a mentor and dear friend of Dr. Jones.
Youth solos and spoken word will highlight and celebrate Blacks, who have made significant contributions to the Canadian community. A cameo appearance will be your surprise.
