As part of Black History Month, this conference offers an in-depth and nuanced reflection on skin color, from its founding myths to its historical, sociopolitical and cultural realities. Why has melanin, a simple biological pigment, become a unit of measurement to define the value and humanity of an individual or entire groups? Contrary to popular belief, racism is a relatively recent construct in the history of humanity. Why has such an ideology become so firmly rooted? Understanding the origins and mechanisms of racism, which have allowed its perpetuation and normalization over the centuries, is an essential step in dislodging it, both from social structures and from individual minds. This conference invites you to rethink the notions of race, diversity and humanity, while reflecting on your own perceptions and responsibilities in the fight against discrimination. An opportunity to contribute to a society where skin color is no longer a unit of measurement, but an expression of the richness and complexity of the human being.
